Essay Presentations

Our Scholarship Candidates are required to draft a 500 word essay as a requirement.  On the evening of the Black Tie Event, the Candidates will make a brief presentation of their essay before our audience.  The Candidates will be judged on how well they present the essay by a designated panel.

Live Music

Our Black Tie Event will feature the vocal styling of 2018 Steeple Awards Gospel New Artist Of The Year, Cheryl McWhorter.  Cheryl is a Gospel recording artist who launched her debut album in 2016 titled "My Story My Song".  Accompanying Cheryl is her Alabama State University mate, DeLon Charley.  DeLon is an accomplished jazz saxophonist who has toured with the legendary Stevie Wonder.  The two are no strangers to the Indianola community.

Tribute to Math and Science Teachers

During the Black Tie Event, we will honor and recognize the Math and Science educators who have taught hundreds of Indianola students over the years.  These educators are instrumental in assisting us in becoming all we could be and instilling in us the academic background we needed to excel.

Showcase of Professional Alums

Another highlight of the Black Tie Event is the first of its kind.  We will "showcase" all of our professional alums who have excelled in Math and Science.  Our Alums consist of physicians, surgeons, pediatricians, chiropractors, pharmacists, neurologists, dentists, nurses, engineers, accountants, bankers and more.  This will be the first time all of our Alums have gathered together, not just to be honored, but also to avail themselves to mentor our high school scholarship Candidates.
