LETTER FROM THE FOUNDATION DIRECTOR

Greetings,

The Charles Edward Featherstone Academic Achievement Scholarship (Featherstone Scholarship) is designed to celebrate the achievements of the Senior Class of every high school graduating year from the Indianola Community.  Only candidates with exceptional accomplishments in the areas of Math and Science are considered for such an honor.  Thank you for deciding to partner with us as we exhibit our generosity toward the scientists and mathematicians of tomorrow.

The Featherstone Scholarship is designed to garner financial support through its abundant and illustrious Indianola alumni base.  Fundraising is the cornerstone of every philanthropic effort.  The Featherstone Scholarship plans to build a collegiate support system from within its own community and distribute financial assistance to the best and brightest minds every graduating class hereafter.

It is the dream of Dr. Charles E. Featherstone to touch the lives of every aspiring scholar from within our schools.  He taught and touched the lives of hundreds of students within the Indianola and Sunflower County area in the disciplines of Math and Science.  Dr. Featherstone graduated from Chadsey High School, Detroit, MI.  He began his college career at Wayne State University, Detroit, MI.  He then finished his Biology Degree at M.V.S.U., Itta Bena, MS.  Dr. Featherstone then attended the School of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, Alabama.  Dr. Charles Featherstone followed his brother, Dr. J.J. Featherstone into the veterinary profession and they both founded the first Black veterinary clinic in the Mississippi Delta, The Mid Delta Animal Clinic, Indianola and Greenville, MS.  Dr. Charles Featherstone also taught biology, chemistry, physics and math at  Amanda Elzy HS, Ruleville Central HS, Gentry HS and Restoration Academy.

“He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” is the designated image that embodies and captures the theme of this movement.  The Featherstone Scholarship Foundation is committed to offering financial assistance through its base of professional alums who have a heart to “give back” to the community from whence they came.
